7:00-8:30pm February 11th
Join us on Thursday, February 11th, 7:00-8:30-PM, as we welcome Keith Bader, the regional manager for Lauber Selections as our guest presenter. Keith is a member of the society of wine educators and has traveled extensively throughout the world visiting wine regions. Keith will lead a very special tasting under the tent at the center of the store, featuring Blandy's Madeira wines.
The Portuguese island of Madeira has produced some of the world's most famous fortified wines since the 17th century. 'Madeira', as it is commercially known throughout the world, can be made from a variety of different grapes and into several different styles and sweetness levels. Come taste history with us and you’ll learn how Madeira is made, the different styles of Madeira, how to buy, store and ultimately how to serve Madeira. You’ll learn how to look at a bottle of Madeira and quickly recognize the style and certain tastes to expect. Keith will also discuss the various age categories of Madeira and you will experience it’s remarkable longevity as best exemplified by tasting vintage Madeira which can remain in excellent condition for 150 years and longer in some cases.
Here is the tasting line-up:
Madeira Rainwater
Madeira Sercial 5 year
Madeira Verdelho 5 year
Madeira Baul 5 year
Madeira Malmsey 5 year
Madeira Malmsey 15 year
Madeira Baul Colheita 2002
Madeira Baul Vintage 1948
Starting at 7:00 PM, Keith will pour eight Madeira wines and lead a discussion about the history of Madeira wines. Keith will put the wines in context by covering the similarities and differences in the way each style of Madeira is made and aged.
This is a fabulous opportunity to both try the wines of this storied area and deepen your knowledge.
Bryan Lindh, our Lauber Selections representative, will be bringing light tasting fare to enhance the wines.
The event begins promptly at 7:00 PM.
The Wine Department hopes to see you there!
