Join us Under the Tent at Joe Canals West Deptford October 14, 6:30-8:30 PM to celebrate the change of season with the crackle of crispy pork skin, four thoughtfully curated wines, special guests, and surprises. Andrea and Dino from the Wine Department are not fooling with matches and fire pits. For the third time, we welcome the Jose Garces Co. to make culinary magic by serving up a whole suckling pig, cooked to perfection and have invited Andres Harmsen and Ben Forsee to present three Rueda white wines from Bodegas Naia and one single vineyard Tinto Fino, "La Mala," from Dominio de Atuata, Ribero del Duero.
Arrive around 6:30, and Rebecca Torpie, original Creator Director for Wedge and Fig in Philadelphia, will greet you with an apertif and amuse-bouche.
Presentation of wines and food begin promptly at 7:00 PM. Why are we doing this? The Wine Department wants to give you the experience of having the right wines, too expensive for a regular by the glass list, with an inspiring dish, for a bargain- and to have a meaningful interaction with one another while doing it. Hear the story, drink the wine.

The cost for the tasting is $65 per person plus ticketleap service fee.
Tickets are only available online and on a first come, first served basis.

Read on for a description of the wine flight, the menu, and the speaker.

WINES.....

S-NAIA 2015
100% Sauvignon Blanc
D.O. Rueda, Spain

Bodegas Naia is located in the village La Seca, which is considered the Grand Cru of the D. O. Rueda and where some of the oldest vineyards of this Denomination of Origin can be found. S-Naia is born after confirming that the Sauvignon Blanc vines of Bodegas Naia adapted perfectly to the conditions of our soil and climate. It is a fresh, explosive and exotic wine with floral notes and hints of tropical fruits. The 2015 vintage shows great quality with an excellent health, marked by scarce rainfalls (200 mm) and high temperatures at the end of the grape's maturation cycle. The stark contrast between the temperatures of the day and night led to an optimum maturation of the skins. The result: a fresh and aromatic wine. 4,200 cases produced

NAIA 2015
100% Verdejo.
D.O. Rueda, Spain

Bodegas Naia was established in 2002 in La Seca, the birthplace of Verdejo in Rueda, with the aim of extracting the best qualities of the original clone of Verdejo. Since then, it has always produced wines that express the authenticity of a rigorous work in the vineyard. Naia reproduces the model of great white wines in the world: fresh wines that are well-structured, mouth-watering and full of character. The winemaking process followed in this wine is very respectful of the classic aromas of the Verdejo variety, and it is aged in its own lees for 4 months in vats and wooden tanks with the aim of improving the structure and density of the wine on the palate. The 2015 vintage is a product of 25-35 year old vines, planted in calcareous soil over which lie superficial layers of sandy-clay mixed with cobbles. 15,000 cases produced

NAIADES 2012
100% Verdejo.
D.O. Rueda, Spain

The grapes used in this wine are grown on pre-phylloxera vines that are over a century old, which are located in small plots of land with a sandy surface. It is a concentrated, varietal wine; the maximum expression of the Verdejo variety. Original and groundbreaking, it has very little to envy from the best white wines in the world. The 2012 vintage was marked by exceptionally low rainfall and by very high day and night temperature oscillations, which led to the grapes reaching optimum maturation levels.
The grapes were hand harvested and aged 7 months on lees in 100% French oak barrels with a slight and medium char. 3,400 6-pack cases produced

DOMINIO DE ATAUTA "LA MALA" 2009
100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo)
D.O. Ribera del Duero

The Atauta Valley is located at the very beginning of the Ribera del Duero appellation and only 50 km. away from the birthplace of the Duero river in the province of Soria at 1,000 meters above sea level. This valley is highly eroded and has a highly diverse variety of soil profiles especially when taking into account its relatively small dimension (4 km long by 1 km wide).
The years of experience and hard work in this area have helped us to get to intricately know the singular characteristics of each of its more than 500 micro-plot vineyards. Each plot is managed individually maintaining a maximum respect of its unique essence and characteristics. This concentrated, complex and full bodied wine is brimming with personality and faithfully evokes the singular landscape where it is born. Its name “La Mala” meaning “the naughty one” in Spanish originates from its exceptionally low yields which made it very unprofitable in the years past for the agriculturalist who inherited it.
430 cases produced

JOSE GARCES CO. MENU

Whole Roasted Suckling Pig (Served Family Style)
Garbanzons Con Espinacas (Chickpeas & Spinach)
Patatas Bravas (Spicy Potatoes)
